  3. Fix the API so that incorrect logins get a JSON error

Currently, when the API is used with an incorrect login, an HTML login page is sent back, rather than a JSON error message. This is ridiculous - clearly for consistency an error message should be sent.

  5. Send NOTIFY to other then NS Servers.

When using Slave/Secondary/Backup Hosting elswhere. Often the Transfer & Notify are not sent to the Nameservers in the NS Records. The AXFR Whitelist solves the Zonetransfer. But as far as i can see NOTIFY sill gets sent to the Nameservers in the NS Records.

As a side note, is there any plans to implement TSIG ?

  6. Support TLSA record type for DANE (RFC6698)

Support the TLSA record type for DNS-Based Authentication of Named Entities (DANE) as specified on RFC 6698 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc6698)

See also https://kb.isc.org/article/AA-00788/0/BIND-9.9.1-P3-Release-Notes.html for support of this in BIND.

  7. BGP path prepend

You should monitor and manage better your BGP announcements so that routing should stay at least on the same continent, example of bad routing bellow:

    from a US VPS:

    traceroute 176.124.112.100

traceroute to 176.124.112.100 (176.124.112.100), 30 hops max, 60 byte packets

  8. Don't return "First Closest" or Global records if regional/country records exist

DNS lookup results should follow a hierarchy. If a country/regional record exists, return that record and no other records (i.e. Global or "First Closest" ). If a regional country/record doesn't exist, return any appropriate "First Closest" records, and if that doesn't exist, return any Global records. BUT NEVER, please, please, please, return ALL 3 records. It makes no sense to return a Global, a First Closest, and a regional/country record to a client.

  11. Current usage on domain list per domain

To have current usage for each domain on domain list. With this, there is no need to enter into each domain to see it.

    Currently it is :
    Name : Type : Created : Action

    make it to :
    Name : Type : Created : Usage : Action

  12. Allow AXFR to other NS than the secondary

Some domain registries (e.g. T-Domain) verify the correct setup of the nameservers by performing an AXFR. Without successful completion of this AXFR a zone cannot be registered with them.

It would be great if one could specify hostnames/IP addresses for hosts that are allowed to perform an AXFR besides the secondary nameservers.

  14. Add Authy Two Factor Support

Authy is a two-factor security tool that easily integrates with any website, to turn your normal SMS enabled, or smartphone into an RSA type two-factor key system.

Would be a great feature to add to the safety of accounts, judging as some of the most notorious hacks of last year were done by redirecting / changing the domain's DNS.

  16. More Geo regions

More flexibility would be great, especially in Europe and where countries are grouped (such as Australia and NZ).

  17. Offer the ability to export domains as named zone files

I think it would be nice to offer the ability to export domain names as named zones, so we can pop them into named on other servers as a backup.

Could be used even just to keep a backup of our records...

Maybe even download all records a as Zip archive?

  18. Allow shadow primary/secondary DNS configuration

If it is possible to allow Rage4 to provide secondary DNS it could potentially allow customers to use multiple providers from a shadow primary. This would offer greater flexibility though its likely it would be at the cost of geolocation. Caching and serving records would allow virtually any record to be served. It would also allow the DNS records to be maintained in house.

This type of configuration is supported by at least two major providers with anycast services, though it is not a very common feature.

As you consider this I'll add a couple more items:

    1. Add a migrate…

  19. Cloning of domain records from an existing domain to a new one

I run a few edge caches around the globe which can cache many domains. It would be of great benefit if new domains could be cloned from an existing domain as the records would be identical.

What would be really useful in my case would be the ability to have many domains running off a central set of dns records : )

  20. Add additional supported record types

There are a few types of DNS records that it would be useful to implement.

SPF (yes this can be done with TXT, but the new standard is the SPF record)

LOC (possibly useful with geolocation, supported by rackspace)

SSHFP (useful in some cases for hosting providers)
